Paulo Fonseca’s tenure as AC Milan’s head coach has come to an end, with the club deciding to sack him after a disappointing 1-1 draw against Roma.
Despite Fonseca’s claims that he had no knowledge of his impending sacking, multiple reports suggest that the decision had already been made, with Sergio Conceicao lined up as his replacement.
Fonseca’s departure comes after a series of underwhelming performances, with Milan currently sitting eighth in the Serie A standings, 14 points behind the leaders.
The Portuguese coach had been under increasing pressure, with tensions rising between him and key players like Rafael Leao and Theo Hernandez.
In a post-match interview, Fonseca seemed defiant, stating that he had “no signal” that he would be sacked and that he “feared nothing”.
However, his dismissal was all but confirmed, with Conceicao reportedly set to take over and lead the team in the Supercoppa Italiana semifinals against Juventus.
Fonseca’s tenure at Milan lasted just six months, during which he managed 24 games, recording 12 wins, six draws, and six losses.
His departure marks a significant change for the club, which will be hoping that Conceicao can turn their season around.
