Arsenal kicked off the new year in style, coming from behind to defeat Brentford 3-1 in a thrilling Premier League match.
The Bees drew first blood through Bryan Mbeumo’s 13th-minute strike, catching Arsenal off guard on the counter-attack.
However, the Gunners equalized before halftime courtesy of Gabriel Jesus’ diving header, his sixth goal in four appearances.
The momentum shifted in Arsenal’s favor in the second half, with Mikel Merino putting them ahead in the 50th minute, followed by Gabriel Martinelli’s stunning volley just three minutes later.
The win propelled Arsenal back into second place in the Premier League, six points behind leaders Liverpool.
Ethan Nwaneri, making his first Premier League start in place of the injured Bukayo Saka, impressed with his performance, particularly in the build-up to Merino’s and Martinelli’s goals.
Brentford, on the other hand, suffered their second home defeat of the season, leaving them in 12th spot with 24 points from 19 games.
